American Museum of Natural History
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions. Since its founding in 1869, the Museum has advanced its global mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition. The Museum is renowned for its exhibitions and scientific collections, which serve as a field guide to the entire planet and present a panorama of the world's cultures.
Atlantis Marine World
Located in Riverhead, NY, Atlantis Marine World is Long Island’s premiere aquarium facility. By capturing visitors’ imaginations and emphasizing the importance of marine life and environmental preservation, Atlantis Marine World aims to provide an interactive and exciting educational experience. Exhibits include penguins, coral reefs, touch tanks, an interactive salt marsh, and more.
Blue Ocean Institute
Blue Ocean Institute uniquely works through science, art, and literature to inspire solutions and a deeper connection with nature. We share reliable information that enlightens personal choices, instills hope, and helps restore living abundance in the ocean
The mission of 5 Gyres is to conduct research and communicate about the global impact of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans and employ strategies to eliminate the accumulation of plastic pollution in the 5 subtropical gyres. The organization’s vision is to witness plastic pollution decline in the environment until it is no longer found in the world’s oceans.
Long Island Sound Study
The Long Island Sound Study (LISS) is a cooperative effort involving researchers, regulators, user groups and other concerned organizations and individuals. These people are working together to protect and improve the health of the Sound.
Mid-Hudson Teacher Center
The mission of the Mid-Hudson Teacher Center [MHTC] is to enhance teaching as a profession and raise student achievement. The Mid-Hudson Teacher Center responds to the needs and interests of over 13,000 educators, along with parents and community members in Dutchess, Ulster and Orange counties. The teacher center endorses reflective practice, continuous inquiry, and collegiality. The center celebrates the talents of teachers, and encourages the sharing of those talents with others. The teacher center is a place where the educator's voice is heard and a community of learners is built!
New York Aquarium
The New York Aquarium is the country’s oldest continuously operating aquarium and is located in Coney Island, New York. It is operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society, which seeks to save wildlife and wild places through science, global conservation, education, and management.
New York Sea Grant
New York Sea Grant (NYSG), a statewide network of integrated research, education, and extension services promoting the wise use and protection of marine and Great Lakes resources, is currently in its 39th year of "Bringing Science to the Shore."Providing timely and relevant research and outreach New York Sea Grant currently supports approximately 40 important research and outreach projects. Our research addresses important issues such as shoreline protection, fisheries, aquatic invaders, water quality and other issues vital to the ecosystem and economic health of NY’s coasts.
Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation
The Riverhead Foundation is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of seals, sea turtles, whales, dolphins, and porpoises. Some of these species are critically endangered and may become extinct in our lifetime. All are protected under New York State, Federal and in some cases, International Law. The Riverhead Foundation is the only organization authorized by New York State to carry on this important work in conserving the marine environment. The Riverhead Foundation’s educational efforts are dedicated to informing the public about our marine environment and how they can aid in its preservation.
Science Council of New York City
SCONYC is a coordinating group for nine science education organizations. These organizations service teachers in elementary, intermediate and high schools in the New York City area.
The Schooba Academy
The Schooba Academy is a nonprofit, out-of-school, credit-bearing program with a mission of fostering a sustained engagement in science for students from low-income communities through the learning of SCUBA diving. Schooba recognizes that sScuba diving is an engaging and exotic action sport. To participate in it, one must have an understanding of many middle and high school science concepts. The organization nurtures the connection between scuba diving and the learning of science, and with close intergenerational support, students receive private science tutoring, 1:1 mentoring, scuba training, and the opportunity to participate in weekend field trips.
U.S. Satellite Laboratory
U.S. Satellite's mission is to improve student achievement, utilizing technology as a tool for learning, while dedicated to helping educators teach STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Education in various contexts. The company provides professional development to teachers from across the Nation through the NASA Endeavor Science Teaching Certificate Project, and has technology-based STEM curriculum products, which were developed with support from NASA, NOAA and NSF. Most recently, U.S. Satellite has produced a high school oceanography textbook entitled Marine Science: The Dynamic Ocean.
The WaterFront Center
WINGS WorldQuest is dedicated to recognizing and supporting visionary women advancing scientific inquiry and environmental conservation. Each year, women explorers and researchers take to the field with WINGS encouragement and financial support and their adventures and findings are shared around the world through our website, educational initiatives, and outreach programs.
